The interesting thing about teaching is, the more you vocalize your thoughts, the more you learn! Call me selfish, but as an avid learner, this is probably one of the main reasons I find teaching rewarding.
This semester, a phrase I found myself repeating to my students was ‘is it true or fictitious’. Depending on your answer, what next? If you’re limited to only two branches from the ‘true’ option, you’re probably making ALOT of assumptions that would potentially lead to verifiable answers, from only sources that, indeed, attest to the fact. However, an expanded view into the alternate ‘counterfactual’ model leads you into a world that may have not been explored otherwise. Like Aladdin puts it;
‘A whole new world
A new fantastic point of view,
No one to us NO and say we’re only dreaming’
Little did I know that a few months down the line, I’d be revisiting these words for myself as I re-chart the path toward an end goal.
